Federica Gianni is an Italian writer and director based in New York since 2009. She is a recent graduate of the Film MFA program in Directing and Screenwriting at Columbia University. Her short film The Friend from Tel Aviv (2015) screened at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Outfest, NewFest, and Frameline among others, and won the Directors Guild of America “Best Student Film Award” in the Women’s category. The film has recently been acquired by the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Center.
Her thesis short film Primo, won the Adrienne Shelly Foundation Award for ‘Best Female Director’ and the IFP Audience Award at the 30th Columbia University Film Festival.
Federica’s first feature film To the Moon on the Wings of a Pig is in development and is set in a beach town near Rome.
Federica is also a screenwriting faculty member at the National High School Institute at Northwestern University in Chicago.
