Thank you for taking the time to visit us. We’re very proud of the work we’re doing and the impact we have within the independent film community.
For me, the Adrienne Shelly Foundation is a labor of love. Adrienne and I were together five incredible years. I’m grateful to have had her in my life even for that short period of time. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and a terrific, loyal friend. She was the most interesting person I’d ever met.
Adrienne was fiercely dedicated to the art of filmmaking and, at 5’1”, stood tall in an industry where women face major challenges. But she did it, and on her own terms. She was able to successfully transition from actor to filmmaker, writing and directing three features.
Her last film, Waitress, was a nationwide box-office success. Another of Adrienne’s scripts, Serious Moonlight, was subsequently produced by me and Michael Roiff (Waitress). It’s a deliciously dark comedy starring Meg Ryan and Tim Hutton, and directed by Cheryl Hines. Catch it on DVD, pay-per-view and cable if you can.
It’s been an exciting year at ASF. We recently held our 3rd Annual Woman of Vision salute at the Museum of Modern Art, where we honored filmmaker and producer Ava DuVernay. And our 7th Annual Celebrity Auction was a record-breaker.
Our grants support women filmmakers. Yet just 6% of the 250 top grossing films last year were directed by women. That’s a shameful statistic, which is why our mission is so critical. Will you help? Your generous contribution goes a long way. And if you like what we’re doing, please forward our link to your friends, family and associates who might be interested in supporting us as well. With great thanks,
