Pernille Rivedal Hellevik was born in Oslo, January 1989, and grew up on the rural west coast of Norway. She studied Film and TV-Production at the University in Bergen, where she graduated in 2011, specialising in Directing.

During her program in Bergen she spent a semester at the Waikato University in New Zealand, where she studied animation and experimental filmmaking. Her Bachelor Thesis film “Dr.Filip” went to several children ́s film festivals around the world.

In 2012 Hellevik enrolled at the Film MFA Directing/Screenwriting program at Columbia University NYC, where she graduated with Honours May 2016. She also did a student exchange program at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie in Berlin, spring 2016. Pernille is twice the recipient of the NORAM Scholarship.
